GAMECON-1

Hello ppl! In case you were wondering this whole designer games thing isn't 'dead'. It's just sleeping ( cause the webmaster has exams). But make no mistake designer games are being promoted amongst the Malaysian public even as we speak! As a matter of fact, Gamecon-1 has just come and gone the past weekend. It was the 1st time such an event has been held in South East Asia. With reps from Singapore and Thailand participating. The event saw the collaboration of all non-electronic forms of gaming including trading card games, RPGs, models, miniatures, wargaming, sci-fi fantasy character dress ups, and also designer boardgames of course! Anyway it was a great event, where I really discovered a true gem, Niagara - this year's Spiel de Yahres winner. Anyway check out more at www.gamecon1.com. These are the newest boardgames we have in stock. -World of Warcraft -Conquest of the Empire -Age of Mythology -Citadels 2nd Ed. (including Dark City expansion) -Memoir 44 expansions -Niagara To find out more go to www.boardgamegeek.com. Or simply explore the links on the right

CHEAPER AXIS &ALLIES MINIS!!!

Great news everyone! For those Axis & Allies minis fans who were dissappointed by the post below, rejoice! If you buy through HIGS, we can supply them to you at discounted prices, RM 80 for starter set (regular RM90) and RM45 for booster pack (regular RM60). Although this doesn't make the game all that much cheaper, it's still a welcome relief for those who just can't resist the call of duty! By the way Call of Duty 2 pc game coming out end of da month! The closest experience you can ever come to walking in the shoes of a WW2 soldier!

RESPECT THE RINGGIT PLEASE!!!

DISAPPOINTED I AM. After years and years of hoping and waiting, the news that a collectible miniature line of WW2 figures coming out seemed to good to be true. And it was precisely just that. I know our ringgit isn't exactly the biggest meanest heavywight contender out there in the free market, but still, RM7 for just a 1.5cm miniature? You gotta be kidding me! I thought the 'ringgit unpegged' had a whole new meaning. Apparently not. Before the bunch of you loaded folks who regularly indulge in weekly fixes of Magic and Star Wars Minis start, I DO KNOW that collectible CARDS/MINIS are an expensive. But please please lets go into the itty-bitty-calculatty details first. Price for booster in US = approx $10-$12 Should be converted price in ringgit= RM12x 4 = RM48 at most Actual price for a pathetic booster of 9 miniatures = RM60 Oh, come - ON! don't tell me shipping and import tax cost RM12 a pack??!?!? Especially when they're shipping in bulk!!! All this points to one conclusion. Comics Corner is screwing us bad. So much for investing in collectable games. I'll just stick to boardgames for now. AND SO SHOULD YOU. (not caring if this sounds like a marketing ploy on the part of boardgames selling on this site) They're worth you're every sen, and they're a one box-one payment kinda thing. No need to splurge through 9-10 absurdly priced booster packs to get that one super-ultra-...-rare just to ensure you get the most out of the game. And with all that extra cash saved, I'm getting worried about my boardgame storage space.

What's next?

4 of the most glorious days of gaming are over in the US. GENCON 2005 saw the release of many new and exciting products in the boardgames and collectable games line. Perhaps the most publicised and hyped-up event of the show was the release of the Axis and Allies Miniatures, whose booth featured life size replicas of WWII vehicles and even a the bombed out ruins of a French Cathedral's ruins. See the whole range of miniatures at the Avalon Hill website. For boardgames, the main releases were Eagle Games Conquest of the Empire and Railroad Tycoon. For Fantasy Flight, it was Descent: Journeys in the Dark, and the World of Warcraft boardgame. Both games epic in their own right with oversized boxes ( TI3 size). But overall, i think the aspect of Gencon that people cherish the most will be the demos and news of games to come in the near future. What's next after Gencon? Essen 2005, Germany. Welcome to the home of the German boardgame revolution.

GENCON 2005

Convention time again!!! After Origins in July, be prepared for Gencon. Bigger, better, bigger.....and er, better! Gencon which takes place in Indiana, US began yesterday and you can already see amazing setups of various game company booths. The pictures above show the Axis and Allies Miniatures booth whilst the other two showcase the World of Warcraft prototype demo. Remember, it is only a prototype so if the colour schemes look bland or weird, remember that this is not the finished product. Also, a note or apology to all visitors for a long period of no new posts. Been very busy lately demoing Puerto Rico. It truly is a masterpiece and i can see why it's #1 on BGG till today. But in the meanwhile check out Gencon at Gamefest. Don't wait for me!
